著名作家米兰 · 昆德拉前日离世，终年 94 岁。最为出名的代表作包括《不能承受的生命之轻》《玩笑》《生活在别处》等，六次获诺贝尔文学奖提名，可惜始终无缘。
1️⃣revoke
意思是「废除，撤销」协议、许可等。《风骚律师》Saul 被吊销律师执照，其中「吊销」就是 revoke。
The institution revoked her husband\x26#39;s license to operate migrant labor crews.
机构撤销了她丈夫管理外来打工人群的许可证。
2️⃣contender
想必大家已经看出，它派生自动词 contend，意思是to compete against someone in order to gain something「竞争；争夺」。contend for sth 则是「为了某事而争夺」，比如，contend for power。可以替换 compete for sth。另，vie for sth 也是用来表达相同意思，大家可以一下子锁定这三个短语。名词 contender 则是「竞争者」。
The team is expected to contend for the championship this year.
这个队今年有望赢得锦标赛冠军。
3️⃣indelible
意思是「无法忘记的；不可磨灭的」，类似 permanent。常与 mark, impression 等构成搭配，leave indelible marks/impressions on sb 意思是「给某人留下不可磨灭的印记/使某人难以忘怀」。
Her words left an indelible impression on me for years to come.
她的话多年来我都难以忘怀。
4️⃣illuminate
原本意思为蜡烛、灯光等「照亮」。如果有人把某事给你解释清楚，你也会「眼前一亮」对不对？所以 illuminate 还可引申为「阐明；解释」，相当于 clarify, explain 等。
The report illuminated the difficult issues at the heart of science policy.
报告阐明了科学方针核心部分的难点。
