吃饭找「饭搭子」，旅游找「旅游搭子」，自习找「自习搭子」……无论是什么活动，你总能找到搭子。而且，这股风潮愈演愈烈。「搭子」用英文怎么说？

《南华早报》用了 temporary partners，因为搭子能火的原因之一就是「暂时性」。在某个阶段做某件事，我需要一个陌生人作为同伴，以免形单影只，太过孤独。但我并不希望搭子深入了解我是谁，我在过什么样的生活。于是这种「轻型社交」成了很多年轻人的首选。

seek 表示 look for someone or something「寻找」。2013 年考研作文曾经考察大家是否熟悉「求职」的英文表达，我们当然可以用 look/hunt for jobs 来表达，但如果你能用上 seek jobs 或 seek employment，无疑会为你的作文增色不少。加上 out 后，整个词组的意思和 seek 依旧很像，表示 to try to find someone or something, especially when this is difficult「找出，找到」。

词根词缀 + 四级词汇

如果不知道这个词，那我们就把后面的 -ship 去掉，露出真身 companion。前面的 com- 常用来表示 together; with 「共同」，所以 companion 是「同伴」的意思。这个「同伴」既可以是陪伴身边的「伴侣」，也可以是志趣相同的「伙伴」，比如， travelling companions 「旅伴」。

-ship 常用来表示 the state or quality of「状态；性质」，最著名的当属 friendship「友情」。所以 companionship 是什么你猜到了吗？既可以指「友情」，也可以指「陪伴」。我们来看 2021 年 12 月六级阅读中的一句话。

novel

熟词生义 + 四级词汇 + 考研词汇

众所周知，novel 是「小说」。不过它还有形容词词性，而且也很常用，表示「新颖的；新奇的」。所以「新想法」以后我们就可以不用 new ideas，而是改用 novel ideas。文中的 novel form 则是指「新形式」。对应的名词为 novelty。来看《经济学人》的一个例句。

而当数据显示事态已偏离正轨时，新的数宇疗法可能会前来救驾。

social interaction

六级词汇

动词 interact 可以表示 to communicate with sb, especially while you work, play or spend time with them「交流；沟通」。如果想表示「与某人沟通」，那我们就在后面加上 with sb。所以 interaction 的意思也是「交流」，而 social interaction 就是「社会交往」，也就是「社交」。

revolve around sth

revolve 表示「旋转」这个动作，比如，地球围绕太阳转，就是 The earth revolves around the sun. 第二，revolve 可以指某本书或者争论「围绕……展开」，非常适合大家在写英文读书报告时用上。本文作者想表达的是，「搭子」这种社交形式的基础是共同兴趣。

guise 不认识，但 disguise 你是不是觉得眼熟呢？二者确实有关系，而且还很亲密。guise 常用来表示「形式；外表」，所以 in many guises 是指「形式多种多样」。

另外，guise 还可以表示「伪装」，比如， under the guise of friendship 是指「打着友谊的幌子」。因此 disguise 有「 假扮；伪装」之义。

initiate social interactions

四级词汇 + 考研词汇

initiate 是一个动词，而且是及物动词，表示 to make sth begin「发起，创始」。比如 initiate a discussion 是指「发起讨论」， initiate legal proceedings 则是「提出法律诉讼」。与下文 establish 属于同近义替换。

Doctors have initiated a series of tests to determine the cause of the problem.

医生开始了一系列的检查以确定问题的起因。

delve into sth

delve 原本指的是在包、盒子等内「翻找」，类似 dig, scrabble 。比如， delve into your pocket 是指「在口袋中翻找」。如果我们想找的不是某件具体的东西，而是抽象的一件事呢？于是 delve 引申出另一个义项——to try to find more information about someone or something「探索，探究」，和 explore 类似。通常和 into 搭配，构成 delve into sth。所以原文 delve into my life 意思是「深入我的生活」。

downgrade expectations

六级词汇

down 是「下」，grade 是「分数」，所以 downgrade 是「下分」？听上去不太对的样子。grade 除了表示「分数」外，还常表示「等级，品级」，所以「低等产品」是 low grade products。在此基础上，grade 还可以表示「职级」。所以 downgrade 的本义是「使降职，使降级」。

升职时收获别人的艳羡，而降职时往往会得到众人的轻视，正所谓「人走茶凉」。所以 downgrade 引申为 to make something seem less important or valuable than it is「贬低，降低，低估」。于是原文这个搭配的意思水落石出， downgrade expectations 意思是「降低期望值」，可替换 lower / dampen expectations。
