当地时间9月1日，普京在回答记者提问时，就俄日关系等多个话题作出表态。当被问及日本对普京近期登上南千岛群岛（日本称“北方四岛”）的反应时，普京称，总的来说，他对此并不感到惊讶。普京还称，俄日关系恶化，责任完全在于日本政府。
