近日，斯坦福大学教授Eric Pop晒出了一份特殊的简历，一份被拒的经历。
他的被拒经历，大致如下：
1996: rejected from MIT’s 6-A internship due to imperfect GPA（因为GPA不够理想，被MIT的6-A实习项目拒绝）
1996: accepted for 6-A internship, then rejected when company learned I wasn’t a US citizen yet（虽然被录取，又因为当时还不是美国公民被公司拒绝）
2003: rejected EDL paper (first EDL submission)（第一次投稿EDL，被拒）
2004: rejected from Truman postdoc fellowship at Sandia （申请桑迪亚国家实验室的Truman博士后奖学金，被拒）
2005: rejected Science paper (did fine at PRL)（论文被Science拒绝，后来在Physical Review Letters发表）
2005: interviewed, then rejected from UCLA faculty job
2005: rejected by UCSD, UC Davis, UC Berkeley, Caltech faculty jobs（面试了UCLA的教职，没拿到；申请UCSD、加州大学戴维斯分校、伯克利和加州理工的教职，也全部被拒）
2006: interviewed, then rejected from Northwestern faculty job. rejected (again) by all UC faculty jobs I applied to（面试西北大学教职，再次被拒；申请的加州大学教职，又一次全部落选）
2007: rejected Nano Letters (first paper as faculty PI)（成为PI后的第一篇论文被《Nano Letters》拒绝）
2007: rejected SRC proposal (first proposal as faculty PI). rejected NSF CAREER (later got it on 2nd try)（第一次申请SRC项目被拒；第一次申请NSF CAREER也被拒，不过第二次成功了）
2008: did not get Packard and Sloan nominations （没拿到Packard和Sloan提名）
2009: rejected DOE Early Career Award (1st try)（第一次申请美国能源部青年科学家奖，被拒）
2010: rejected MRS abstract (I was told these don’t get rejected, we found a way)（MRS会议摘要被拒。他还开玩笑说：“别人告诉我这种摘要一般不会被拒，但我们还是找到了被拒的方法。”）

2019: another rejected MURI（又一次申请MURI项目，又一次被拒）
2021: rejected Nature Electronics (did fine at ACS Nano, 300+ citations)（论文被《Nature Electronics》拒绝，后来在《ACS Nano》顺利发表，并获得了300多次引用）
2022: career-lowest teaching evaluation (that one still hurts)（拿到职业生涯最低的教学评价，这件事现在想起来仍然难受）
2022: rejected by PhD student who dropped out for Jesus (del carpintero, not del Alamo)（被一名博士生“拒绝”，他退学去追随耶稣。这里指木匠耶稣，不是Jesús del Alamo教授）
2023: rejected DOE EFRC (took 4-mo to put together)（花了4个月准备的DOE EFRC项目申请，被拒）
2023: rejected NSF FuSe (later got FuSe2)（NSF FuSe项目申请被拒，后来获得了FuSe2项目）
2023: rejected by PhD student who went to Aaron Franklin（被一名博士生“拒绝”，这名学生去了Aaron Franklin的团队）
2023: rejected reimbursement because I tipped Uber $0.2 over the limit（因为乘坐Uber时给的小费超出限额0.2美元，报销被拒）
2024: rejected Nature paper (did fine at Science)（论文被《Nature》拒绝，后来在《Science》顺利发表）
2025: rejected MRS Fellow nomination（MRS Fellow提名被拒）

2026: another rejected DOE EFRC（DOE EFRC项目申请再次被拒）
2026: pre-rejected Samsung GRO (Stanford not participating)（三星GRO项目还没申请就被“预拒绝”，因为斯坦福大学没有参与）
Eric Pop说，这份清单还没有算上2007年至2025年间被拒的150多份项目申请，也没有算那些难以统计的拒稿，以及被他努力忘掉的其他失败。
他最后总结了几点：
第一，记性不要太好，脸皮要足够厚。
第二，博士毕业以后，被拒只会越来越多，尤其是当你成为PI以后。
第三，有些拒绝可以帮助自己改进，也可以成为继续尝试的动力。
第四，有些东西，第二次、第三次申请，真的可能拿到。
第五，拥有愿意鼓励你的学生和合作者，非常重要。
