Fable Poem
By Meng Jiao (Tang Dynasty)
Translated by Wang Yongli
Who says that emerald hills may wind andswerve
Can bend the pine that stands with unshakennerve?
Who says the muddy waters' murky flow
Can stain the moon-white radiance below?
My heart holds pine and moonlight, pure andbright;
The world may rage with frost and wind andblight.
If truth and light are rooted deep in me,
What force can break such steadfast purity?
`stands erect and still`：青松直，erect 挺立、still 不移，静态持守，极贴合松的品格。 `My heart holds pine andmoonlight, pure and bright`：我有松月心，hold心中葆有松与月的品格。`If truth and light are rooted thus in me`：贞明既如此。
