由于荷兰国防部需要更多空间，莱利城机场周边的四家农场和六家企业将被迫关闭。国防部国务秘书博斯维克表示，国防部将向这些企业和有关家庭支付补偿金，或帮助他们搬迁到其他地方。
博斯维克称，国防部需要更多空间。因此，莱利城机场正在扩建，新增面积达240公顷。其中40公顷将用于延长跑道，以便F-35战斗机在此进行训练。
目前，该机场尚未获得环境许可，但博斯维克不愿等待许可的审批。
