今天想练的语法点（准确维专项）：精确的倍数与比例表达，用来把"大小多少"说准。

注意：倍数用 "X times as + 形容词 + as"；比较级前加 much / far / slightly 表程度，绝不能在 bigger 前面再加 more（不说 more bigger）。这是准确维最容易翻车的地方，今天刻意练。

A town is a book, written in stone and brick. Every age added a page. A wall here, a temple gate there, a lane worn smooth by a million footsteps. We don't preserve these to freeze the past. We preserve them to keep talking to the people who built the city before us.

The case for renewal is real too. Old structures leak. They block wider roads. They fail modern safety codes. But the case for keeping them is just as real. A place with no memory of its own past turns into anywhere. Two cities with the same glass towers look identical. Only the old streets tell you which one you're standing in.

From a single lane in my hometown to a pie chart of the world's box office, culture really comes down to one question. What do we choose to keep? Liangzhou has been answering that for nearly two thousand years, and the answers are still standing in stone.

The lane where my memory begins. I grew up in Taiping Lane, in Liangzhou. My earliest memories are of running up and down that lane before I could even read its name. I only learned later why it was called Taiping. The lane took its name from an old local tale, the 'Taiping Xiangu Baojuan', a Liangzhou folk story scroll about a lady known as the Taiping Immortal. You don't need to understand a story as a child to feel that a place is worth remembering. That lane taught me, without a word, that a city keeps its past not only in temples and steles, but in the small streets where kids once ran.

A temple that sent a son to the very top. The Liangzhou Confucian Academy, today's Wuwei Confucian Temple, was first built in 301 CE. It is one of the three great Confucian temples of China, and still the crown of every academy in the northwest. And here is the part I love. The Western Xia emperors bent toward Confucius hard. One invited scholars in, another copied the Central Plains ceremony down to the guards and carriages, and by Emperor Renzong's time the exam was the only door left to office, royals included. This academy was the official school of the Western Xia. The Xi Xia Shu Shi records it without fuss, the palace exam, the roll-call of names, even a track for child prodigies. This is the temple that produced a zhuangyuan, the top scorer of the imperial exam. Li Zunxu grew up in Wuwei commandery, son of Prince Li Yanzong of Qi. The old record says he was a serious boy who read everything and could write both clerical and seal script by hand. At forty he sat the 1203 palace exam and came first. His father rose from Xiliangfu, that is Wuwei, and put him on the throne in 1211. He is China's only top scorer who became emperor, and at sixty the only emperor emeritus Western Xia ever saw. Now look at the building itself. The temple stands as three compounds side by side. The Wenchang Palace sits on the east, the Confucius Temple holds the middle, and the prefectural academy takes the west. Walk it the way the rite prescribes. A screen wall comes first, then the Pan Pool, then the Lingxing Gate, which is the true main gate, then the Gate of Great Achievement, then the Hall of Great Achievement. Two side gates flank the screen wall and the main gate. The whole complex forms an inverted T. People say the temple had no main gate, because Liangzhou never produced a zhuangyuan. That tale is a misreading by folks who never learned the building code. The gate was always there. It is the Lingxing Gate, and the bridge over the Pan Pool still carries his name, the Zhuangyuan Bridge. A place that tied its schoolhouse to a throne, and built it by the book, took learning seriously. Plain and simple.

A horse that carries a dynasty's name. The bronze horse from the Leitai tomb isn't some anonymous old find. It's the work of the former Liang state under Zhang Gui. Stand in front of it and you're looking at a founder's own token, proven by four silver seals. Liangzhou doesn't guess at its history. It pins it down.

A stele that speaks two tongues. The Liangzhou stele carries the Tangut script of the Western Xia, a rare double-language inscription, and it's one of the keys to studying that lost state. One stone here kept a whole written language from vanishing.

Music that walked the Silk Road. The court music of Liangzhou, the Xiliang yuewu, later travelled east and fed straight into the Tang dynasty's 'Rainbow and Feather Robe' suite. Behind the beauty was real craft. Tuning, acoustics, the making of instruments. Art here was always also technology.

A purple mountain at the city's back. At the foot of 凉州莲花山（姑臧紫山）, the old city of Liangzhou still shows the outline of 姑臧卧龙城. Read it as 'seven li by three' or follow Professor Su Bai's reading, the shape is still there. A city is a map people drew before paper maps existed.

Folk tunes that refuse to die. The lanes of Liangzhou still carry their old folk songs and storytelling. A place that sings its own songs hasn't let someone else borrow its voice.

Stand at the foot of 凉州莲花山（姑臧紫山） and you'll see it. The old town is still there, and so are the new lanes laid right beside it. Liangzhou never really chose between memory and change. It kept both, messily, but it kept both. That's the only honest answer I've got. Standing at the foot of 凉州莲花山（姑臧紫山）, you see a town that has kept its memory while still letting new lanes be laid. Culture is not a frozen display. It is the art of keeping the old and welcoming the new at the same time.
