当地时间10月9日，巴拿马发生7.6级强震。前总统里卡多·马蒂内利的住宅在震中受损严重，部分结构坍塌。经马蒂内利本人确认，住宅内无人伤亡。此次地震造成巴拿马多个省市医院、学校、政府大楼、桥梁、道路和民宅受损，部分地区电力、饮用水和互联网中断。
