济南与郑州，黄河下游沿岸的两个省会城市，直线距离仅370公里，此前铁路需绕行徐州或石家庄，形成“V”形远路。济郑高铁补上了鲁豫之间的交通短板。
山东大学交通规划设计研究中心主任张汝华介绍，线路向西串联西安、兰州、西宁，构筑一字形沿黄大通道。聊城迈入高铁时代，茌平、莘县等沿线区域客流上涨，吸引投资、集聚产业。
