【“我们的中国故事”希腊篇】马诺利杜：两种文化，同一种精神

在希腊雅典的一间教室里，学生们用古希腊语齐声吟诵着荷马史诗《奥德赛》的开篇诗句。

希腊古典教育学校（Elliniki Agogi）成立于1994年，是雅典一所规模不大的私立学校，致力于通过互动式教学，向儿童和成年人传授古希腊语。作为学校校长，尤金妮娅·马诺利杜（Eugenia Manolidou）积极推动中国与希腊之间的文明交流，尤其注重促进两国青少年的文化互动与相互理解。

马诺利杜与中国的缘分始于2008年北京奥运会。当时，她以作曲家和指挥家的身份参与奥运相关音乐创作，受北京奥组委委托，为奥运会创作一部协奏曲。

为了完成这部作品，她花费了整整六个月的时间，深入研究中国传统乐器、歌曲和舞蹈等音乐文化元素。其中，琵琶以其丰富的表现力、宽广的音域和独特的音色，令她尤为着迷。

“它让我想起了古希腊的弹拨乐器。”她说。

经过潜心创作，尤金妮娅·马诺利杜（Euge杜最终完成了名为《两种文化，同一种精神》（Two Cultures,One Spirit）的音乐会作品，由交响乐团、合唱团和琵琶独奏共同演绎。

“这部作品的主题就蕴含在它的标题之中。”她解释道。

“我希望通过音乐表达这样一种理念：中国和希腊看似是两种截然不同的文化，各自拥有独特的文化身份、悠久的历史和深厚的哲学传统，但两者能够通过人类共同追求的人文精神、合作与和平走到一起。”

这部作品本身便体现了这一理念。她将中国琵琶与希腊传统节奏巧妙融合，让两种文化通过音乐展开跨越时空的对话。

自2017年起，马诺利杜开始担任希腊古典教育学校校长，将事业重心转向古希腊语的推广与教育。

她认为：“古希腊语与现代希腊语非常相似，通过适当的教育方式，人们可以较为轻松地掌握这门语言。”

得益于自身的艺术背景，她在古希腊语教学中形成了注重实践与互动的独特方法。

采访当天，学校正在开展一堂以《奥德赛》为主题的课程。马诺利杜并没有采用传统的阅读和背诵方式，而是通过歌曲与音乐，引导学生学习史诗开篇的前十行诗句。

“音乐是所有人共同的语言。它不仅能够连接专业音乐家，也能够成为教师与学生之间沟通的桥梁。”她说。

在古典学研究领域，马诺利杜也持续为中希文化交流作出贡献。

2022年北京冬奥会举办前夕，她与同事共同组织了一场线上交流活动，邀请希腊古典教育学校与北京一所学校的学生共同参与。

与她2008年指挥的音乐会一样，这场活动同样旨在通过共同的精神纽带，将世界上两个最古老的文明连接起来。

不同的是，这一次，她们选择了哲学作为连接两种文明的桥梁。

中国和希腊的学生通过朗诵经典文本，围绕友谊、正义、合作等广泛议题交流哲学思想，在古老智慧中寻找彼此的共鸣。

不久前，马诺利杜还接待了来自中国清华大学的访问团队。双方共同探讨了哲学、历史与领导力等话题，并交流了古代文明能够为当今社会带来哪些启示。

除了课堂教学，马诺利杜还致力于推动与世界各地学者在古典学领域的交流与合作。

2026年6月，她参加了在雅典举行的第二届世界古典学大会。

此前，首届世界古典学大会于2024年在北京举行。马诺利杜也曾出席此次大会，并就向青少年教授古希腊语的重要性发表演讲。

在第二届世界古典学大会期间，她还在马拉松市（Marathon）发表专题报告，以小麦为切入点，探讨其作为文明种子，以及古代不同文化之间接触与交流象征的深层意义。

马诺利杜高度赞赏中国为推动中国古典学与希腊古典学研究所作出的扎实努力，并期待下一届世界古典学大会的召开。

谈及古典学的当代价值，马诺利杜表示：

“古典学的价值是毋庸置疑的。经典作品始终能够回应每个人所面对的永恒问题。经典就像一位充满智慧的祖辈，以慈爱之心告诉你什么才是最好的选择。”

她鼓励年轻人，无论未来从事什么职业，都应主动接触和学习经典，从古代智慧中汲取精神养分。

从音乐到古典学研究，从音乐厅到教室，马诺利杜始终将文明交流视为跨越文化差异与代际界限、促进人与人之间相互理解的重要途径。

展望未来，她希望通过与中国学校和大学开展更多合作，进一步深化中希两国之间的联系，让两大古老文明在新时代焕发新的活力。

"O Muse, tell me of that man of many ways, who travelled…" echoes through the classroom as students chant the opening lines of Homer's "The Odyssey" in ancient Greek. Elliniki Agogi is a small private school founded in 1994 that teaches ancient Greek interactively to children and adults in Athens, Greece. Eugenia Manolidou, as the school's director, is a key contributor to civilisational exchange between China and Greece, particularly among young people.

Manolidou's story with China first began in 2008 through her work as a composer and conductor for the Olympic Games in Beijing. She was commissioned by the organising committee to compose a concerto for the Olympics. For six months, she studied everything related to Chinese music such as traditional instruments, songs, and dances. She was particularly captivated by the pipa for its eloquence, range, and distinctive sound. "It reminded me of ancient Greek plucked instruments," she says.

Manolidou's hard work culminated in a concert called Two Cultures, One Spirit for a symphony orchestra, choir, and pipa soloist. "The message is its title", she explains. "I want to share how China and Greece, as two seemingly different cultures, each with its own identity, rich history, and philosophical tradition, come together through a shared spirit of humanity, collaboration, and peace". The composition itself embodies this message by bringing together the pipa with traditional Greek rhythms, creating a musical dialogue between the two cultures.

Since 2017, Manolidou has dedicated her career to promoting ancient Greek by leading Elliniki Agogi. She believes that "ancient Greek is a language very similar to modern Greek and can be easily acquired through education". Her artistic background has given her a hands-on approach to teaching ancient Greek. On the day of the interview, the school was holding a class on "The Odyssey." Rather than reading and reciting, she introduced the first 10 lines of the poem to students through song and music. "Music is a common language for everyone, not only between professional musicians, but also between a teacher and a student", she shares.

In the field of classical studies, Manolidou continues to contribute to Sino-Greek cultural exchange. Ahead of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, Manolidou and her colleagues organised an online event bringing together students from Elliniki Agogi and the Beijing Academy. The event, like the concert she conducted in 2008, aimed to bring together two of the world's most ancient civilisations through a common spirit. This time, philosophy was chosen as that common spirit. Chinese and Greek students exchanged philosophical ideas by reciting texts on a wide range of subjects, such as friendship, justice, and collaboration. Recently, Manolidou hosted a team from Tsinghua University. Together, they discussed philosophy, history, and leadership, as well as what the ancient past could teach us today.

Beyond the classroom, Manolidou is also dedicated to fostering exchanges in the field of classics with scholars from all over the world. In June 2026, Manolidou took part in the Second World Conference of Classics in Athens. The event followed the First World Conference of Classics in Beijing in 2024, where she spoke about the importance of teaching ancient Greek to young people. As part of the programme of the second conference, she gave a presentation in Marathon on wheat as a seed of civilisation and a symbol of contact and exchange among ancient cultures. Manolidou praises the serious efforts China has made to promote the study of both Chinese and Greek classics, and she looks forward to the next conference.

For Manolidou, "The value of classics is something that no one can argue about. Classics continue to answer timeless questions for every human being. Classics are like a very wise grandparent, who tells you lovingly what is best for you." She encourages young people to encounter classics no matter what they do in their professional lives.

From music to classical studies, and from the concert hall to the classroom, Manolidou sees civilisational exchange as a way of bringing people together across cultures and generations. Looking ahead, she wants to build stronger ties between China and Greece through fostering more collaborations with Chinese schools and universities.
