一图护飞鸟，一屏藏温柔，这是宁诺独有的生态浪漫

暑假期间，略显安静的宁波诺丁汉大学校园里，几名学生正穿梭在宁诺校园的各个角落。

张珂婷顶着高温，手持拾音设备，在树林和草坪之间来回走动。她在为微信小程序“宁诺鸟类声音地图”录制鸟鸣声——这是她的毕业设计，里面记录着栖息在宁诺的鸟类的白头鹎‌、红嘴蓝鹊、乌鸫、珠颈斑鸠等鸟类的图片、叫声以及常见位置，同时支持师生上传自己拍摄到的鸟类照片。

同项目组的孟宪楚则忙于为鸟儿安装一套“避障系统”。

“鸟类无法识别透明玻璃，一旦撞上，轻则受伤、重则当场死亡。”据她介绍，校园不少建筑都采用大面积玻璃设计，在为师生提供充足光线的同时，也为鸟类飞行带来了隐患。

“我在宁诺建筑的玻璃上粘贴了鸟类防撞贴纸。这些印有波点图案的贴纸能在不遮挡室内采光的同时，有效帮助飞鸟识别透明障碍物，从而减少鸟撞事故。”孟宪楚说。

实际上，宁诺学生

关注鸟类生态的“传统”由来已久

2018年，学校新图书馆动工，选址位于校园原占地6219平方米的小树林。消息一出，大家除了关注新馆什么时候建成，谈论最多的便是“树和鸟该怎么办”。

为此，学校在开工前对该片区域开展环保调研，并将树木移栽到了全校的各个角落。与此同时，由学生葛陆原等人发起的校园鸟类摄影活动得到了上百位师生的积极响应，征集的200多张各种鸟类图片配上科普知识在图书馆展出。

这份对生态的守护，让鸟在此栖息，也让人找到了与自然相处的乐趣

来自英国的外籍教师Sam Newbould便是其中之一。他从未想过，自己会在宁诺爱上观鸟。

“2020年假期里，校园很空旷。”Sam仍记得那天的场景，“我坐在学校宿舍的阳台上，看着一只只鸟儿从眼前飞过，突然对这些朝夕相处的‘邻居’来了兴趣。”

这几年，他在中国跑了不少地方，记录下超520种鸟类。“老实说，最方便的日常观鸟场所无疑是宁诺。”他表示，得益于良好的生态环境，自己曾在校园里看到过国家二级重点保护野生动物凤头鹰。

“每次看到鸟儿在这片土地上自由飞翔、繁衍栖息，我都能真切感受到万物共生的美好，也更坚定了继续用镜头留住这份自然之美的决心。”Sam说。

随着新学期的开始，张珂婷即将启程前往剑桥大学继续深造学业。

临行前，她把小程序和防鸟撞项目的所有资料，正式移交给了学校诺丁绿环保社的成员——他们将接管小程序更新、防鸟撞排查等工作，把这份生态接力继续传下去，让宁诺充满生机的土地上万物各得其所、人与自然和谐共生。

A bird sound map, bird-safe window stickers and a long-running tradition of student-led conservation are helping protect wildlife at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC).

During the summer holiday, graduate-to-be Keting Zhang braved the heat to record birdsong for the UNNC Bird Sound Map, a WeChat mini programme developed as part of her graduation project. The map features photographs, calls and common locations of birds found on campus, including Chinese bulbuls, red-billed blue magpies, blackbirds and spotted doves, and invites staff and students to contribute their own photographs.

Meanwhile, fellow student Xianchu Meng has been installing bird-safe stickers on the glass of UNNC buildings. Their dotted patterns help birds recognise transparent obstacles while allowing natural light into buildings, reducing the risk of bird-window collisions.

The students are continuing a tradition of environmental awareness at UNNC. In 2018, when the site of the new library was home to a 6,219-square-metre woodland, students and staff raised concerns about its trees and wildlife. The University responded by relocating trees around campus, while a student-led bird photography project collected more than 200 photographs from the UNNC community and turned them into an educational exhibition.

The campus’s biodiversity has also inspired staff member Sam Newbould, who first took up birdwatching after watching birds from his accommodation balcony in 2020. He has since recorded more than 520 bird species across China, including the nationally protected crested goshawk at UNNC.

“Every time I see birds flying freely, breeding and making their homes here, I can truly appreciate the beauty of different species living in harmony,” says Sam.

As Keting prepares to continue her studies at the University of Cambridge, she has handed over the bird sound map and bird-collision prevention project to UNNC’s NottinGreen environmental student society. The students will continue the work, passing the baton of conservation from one generation to the next and helping people and wildlife thrive together at UNNC.
