Furthermore, Frankhasalsobeenacceptedby the University of Toronto(consistently ranked #1 in Canada),underscoringthe global competitiveness and excellence of our graduates.

近日，香港大学（HKU）2026年度录取结果陆续揭晓。数据显示，在首批获得录取的学生中，来自IB课程体系的申请者表现尤为亮眼，获得港大首批offer的学校基本都是IB学校。其中，我校2026届毕业生Frank F.也凭借出色的综合实力斩获港大录取。除香港大学外，该同学还成功将加拿大排名第一的多伦多大学录取通知书收入囊中，再次印证了我校学子在国际名校申请中的竞争力。

During the peak of theglobal university admissions season, IB Diploma Programme (DP) studentsconsistently stand out to admissions officers. According to official data fromthe IBO, IB students are at anadvantage with elite institutions: in the US, IB graduates are 21.4 per centmore likely to be admitted into 10 of the country’s most prestigiousuniversities, includingHarvard, Princeton, Yale, and Stanford.

What Are DP StudentsLearning?

Academic potential is a key focus in university admissions. The IBDP isstructured to mirror the rigors of higher education, prioritizing thedevelopment of critical thinking and independent research.

学术潜力是大学录取时的重要考量因素。DP课程的结构设计借鉴并对标高等教育的学术要求，侧重培养学生的批判性思维与独立研究能力。

DPStudents are required to select courses from six subject groups:Languageand Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences,Mathematics, and the Arts.This structure enables students to build abalanced and comprehensive academic foundation without narrowing their choices while still at school, and can keep universityoptions open. Such an approach alignsclosely with the liberal arts education prevalent in NorthAmerica and at universities worldwide.

That doesn’t come at theexpense of academic rigour, though.DP students followthree subjects at Higher Level, where they receive 240 teaching hours in each.And learning a second language has been linked in studies to a higherlevel of achievement at both school and university.

EveryDP student undertakes the Extended Essay (EE), a long-term, individual researchinvestigation that culminates in a 4,000-word research paper. It is a major thesis project that most students do notencounter until college or university. Itrequires students to navigate the entire research process, from topic selectionand literature review to methodology and academic writing. A well-executed EEis powerful evidence to admissions officers, demonstrating a student's grasp ofacademic integrity, research skills, and analytical writing.

DP课程还要求学生完成一篇拓展论文，这是一篇这项长达4000字、完全由学生独立完成的原创性研究论文。它本质上是一篇微缩版的本科毕业论文。学生需要完成从选题、文献综述、研究方法到严谨写作和引用的全过程。对招生官而言，一份高质量的拓展论文，是最强有力的证据之一，表明该申请者已彻底理解学术诚信，并掌握了独立研究、批判性分析与学术写作的核心技能。

According to a report on exploring the benefits of the IB extended essay for universitystudies at the University of Virginia (2013), former IB students felt strongly that their EE experience preparedthem to conduct the various facets of the research process. When compared withformer AP students, IB students were significantly more likely to indicate thatthey felt prepared for college-level coursework involving research. The groupand individual interviewees indicated specific skills that were augmented bycompleting the EE project. Dr David Conley, Professor of EducationalPolicy and Leadership in the College of Education at the University of Oregonand founder of the Educational Policy Improvement Center, says the IB exceeds standards in critical thinking andresearch skills required for college-readiness in the USA. Throughthe Extended Essay, our studentsdisplay a level of analytical rigor that consistently impresses admissionsofficers.

弗吉尼亚大学一项关于IB课程拓展论文对大学学业的研究表明，曾修读IB课程的学生普遍认为，完成拓展论文的经历为他们后续学术研究奠定了扎实基础；与曾修读AP课程的学生相比，IB学生对“自己已为大学阶段涉及研究任务的专业课程做好充分准备”这一表述的认同度也更高。俄勒冈大学教育学院教育政策与领导力教授、教育政策改进中心创始人大卫·康利博士表示，IB课程在批判性思维和研究技能方面超越了美国大学入学所需的标准。我们的学生也在借助拓展论文展示他们分析能力，成为打动招生官的关键因素之一。

Subjects aren’t taught in isolation in the DP. One of the main differencesbetween the Diploma Programme and other curricula is Theory of Knowledge (ToK)classes. ToK is assessed through an exhibition and a 1,600-word essay. Itencourages students to make connections between subjects and gain the skillsthey need to become critical thinkers and more effective learners, rather thansimply repositories of knowledge. By asking "Howdo we know?" and exploring the construction of knowledge across subjects, students become active critical thinkers.

The ToK is only part of the picture: our DP teachers also planinterdisciplinary classes. Seeing connections between subjects also helpsprepare students for higher education studies, where learning is becoming lesscompartmentalised.

What Do TopUniversities Consider Beyond Academic Performance?

Leading universities value students who demonstrate both socialresponsibility and well-rounded profiles. Through the CAS core, Creativity,Activity, Service (CAS), our students pursue community engagement andself-development that extends far beyond their academic studies.

许多顶尖大学倾向于招收具备社会责任感和综合素质的学生。DP的三大课程核心之一：创造、行动、（CAS）旨在鼓励学生在学术之外参与社区实践与个人能力拓展。

The creativity, action, service (CAS) requirement in the Diploma Programmeencourages experiential learning, acquiring knowledge through directexperience.The CAS programme formally begins at the start ofthe DP and continues regularly for at least 18 months with a reasonable balancebetween creativity, activity and service. At ISD, that could mean anything from editing the school magazine, volunteering with International Crossroads,or exercising leadership within the StuCo.

DP students must balance a demandingacademic schedule with CAS, engaging in creative arts, sports, and communityservice. This effort goes beyond mere checkbox fulfillment; itrequires planning, reflection, and commitment.Admissions officers see strong time management, resilience, and socialresponsibility in these experiences, which are crucial for balancing academicsand personal life. These skills enable IB graduates to distinguish themselvesin the university admissions process.
