据欧洲-地中海地震中心测定，当地时间10月20日17时29分，瓦努阿图维拉港西北505公里处海域发生5.3级地震，震源深度37公里，震中位于南纬13.956度，东经165.702度。
瓦努阿图位于环太平洋火山地震带，因地壳板块相互碰撞而频发地震。
