1939年9月27日，日本侵略者连续两次轰炸榆林城，时值中秋佳节，城内死伤惨重。为铭记历史，缅怀先烈，珍爱和平，增强广大人民群众的国防观念和人民防空意识，使群众够熟悉并正确识别防空警报信号，榆林市人民政府定于每年的9月27日为榆林城区防空警报试鸣日，以示警示。
