Connections among crystal chemistry, disorder and critical temperature Tc are at the forefront of superconductivity. In Fe-based superconductors Tc correlates with the average anion height above the Fe plane. By synthesizing FeSe₁₋ₓSₓ (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) single crystal alloys with atomic defects we find that their Tc is not correlated with the anion height. Instead, changes in Tc(x) and tetragonal-to-orthorombic (nematic) transition Ts(x) on cooling are correlated with Bragg plane and Fe vibrations disorder in direction orthogonal to Fe planes and thereby induced scattering rates (1/τ)(x). The disorder stems from deformed Fe(Se,S)4 tetrahedra with different Fe-Se and Fe-S bond distances. Moreover, high-temperature metallic resistivity in the region of strong disorder exceeds Mott limit and is an example of the violation of Matthiesen's rule and Mooij law which is known to be a dominant when adding moderate disorder past the Drude/Matthiassen's regime in all materials. Scattering mechanism of Mott limit-exceeding resistivity arises from strong Se/S atom disorder in tetrahedral surrounding of Fe. High sensitivity of FeSe to local symmetry breaking is further manifested in a strain-tuned fluctuation-enhanced electron phonon coupling in FeSe even in the absence of chemical disorder. Observations point to intricate connection between nanostructure details and unconventional scattering mechanism, possibly related to charge-nematic or magnetic spin fluctuations.

Glasses are out-of-equilibrium materials whose properties are governed by the interplay between atomic structure and dynamics. Understanding this relationship is essential to unravel the microscopic mechanisms underlying the glass transition, the slow relaxation processes below the glass-transition temperature (Tg), and the evolution of glass stability.
This talk will explore structure-dynamics relationships in glasses, with a particular focus on metallic glasses. For this purpose, we combined different advanced synchrotron based and laboratory techniques, to investigate atomic-scale dynamics and their connection to structural relaxation over many length and time scales.
The first part will address the microscopic origins of the glass transition and the dynamical processes occurring across and below Tg, whereas the second part will focus on the control of glass stability and relaxation through thermal and mechanical protocols, including temperature, pressure, and sample preparation . These latter approaches can drive glasses towards distinct metastable states, modifying their relaxation behaviour and physical properties. By examining how processing history influences glass structure, dynamics, and stability, we explore pathways to understand and tailor the behaviour of amorphous materials.
